LNG Technical Superintendent

Meridian Marine & Offshore Services is seeking an experienced LNG Technical Superintendent to support the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of LNG carrier vessels serving international energy transportation routes from Qatar. This role is suitable for a senior marine engineering professional with strong LNG vessel experience, shore-based fleet management exposure, and a practical understanding of class, flag, dry dock, planned maintenance, and marine operational compliance.

The LNG Technical Superintendent will act as the main technical owner for assigned LNG carrier vessels. The role will work closely with Masters, Chief Engineers, Fleet Managers, Class Societies, Flag State representatives, shipyard teams, equipment makers, charterers, and internal commercial and operations teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that vessels remain technically reliable, commercially available, audit-ready, and compliant with international maritime standards.

This position requires more than routine maintenance oversight. The ideal candidate should be able to review technical reports, challenge maintenance priorities, plan dry dock scopes, control technical budgets, coordinate major repairs, and support long-term vessel performance improvement. LNG carriers are highly specialized assets, so experience with cargo containment systems, boil-off gas management, propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, safety systems, and gas-related operational risk will be highly valuable.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the technical performance and maintenance readiness of assigned LNG carrier vessels.
• Review daily, weekly, and monthly vessel technical reports from Masters and Chief Engineers.
• Monitor planned maintenance system compliance and ensure critical equipment is maintained on schedule.
• Coordinate dry dock planning, repair specifications, shipyard tendering, and project execution follow-up.
• Liaise with Class Society, Flag State, port authorities, terminal representatives, and charterer inspection teams.
• Review technical defects, machinery breakdowns, recurring failures, and corrective action plans.
• Support budget preparation, technical expenditure review, purchase approvals, and cost control.
• Coordinate spare parts planning for critical machinery, cargo systems, and safety equipment.
• Support vessel inspections, audits, vetting preparation, and close-out of observations.
• Work with marine operations teams to ensure vessel availability, safe cargo operations, and schedule reliability.
• Provide technical guidance to onboard senior officers and support continuous improvement across fleet operations.
• Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and technical risk mitigation actions.

Requirements:

• Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related technical qualification.
• Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency or equivalent sea-going engineering background is strongly preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of marine engineering experience, with significant exposure to LNG carriers or gas carriers.
• Previous shore-based Technical Superintendent, Fleet Superintendent, or Vessel Manager experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of planned maintenance systems, dry dock management, class requirements, and vessel audits.
• Familiarity with LNG cargo systems, propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and marine safety management systems.
• Ability to communicate effectively with vessel crew, shipyards, vendors, class surveyors, and internal stakeholders.
• Comfortable travelling internationally for vessel attendance, shipyard visits, inspections, and operational reviews.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with LNG carriers operating from Qatar or Middle East LNG terminals.
• Exposure to SIGTTO, OCIMF, ISM Code, MARPOL, SOLAS, and class inspection requirements.
• Experience managing dry docks, retrofits, major repairs, or fleet improvement programs.
• Experience with MAN Energy Solutions engines, cargo monitoring systems, or LNG vessel automation systems.
